Description Improvements: Before / Proposed

This document proposes a refresh to the product descriptions across the catalog. Three representative product pages are shown side-by-side: left column is the description currently live on the storefront; right column is the proposed update.

Every change made in the proposed version falls into one of five categories. Each category targets a specific outcome - higher search ranking, AI-search visibility, customer trust, or conversion - documented in detail in the next section. Numbered markers in the right-column descriptions point to the specific places where each category appears. Hover any marker for a one-line summary; the full reasoning lives in the matching category card above.

Categories of changes

Five categories cover every proposed change. Each category corresponds to a single, specific reason - SEO ranking, GEO (AI-search) citation, customer trust, or conversion. Marker color in the example descriptions is keyed to the category tone: blue = SEO/GEO, green = trust, amber = visual.

A

Registry-exam keyword in product titles

SEO. Students searching by exam name ("ARDMS SPI study guide," "AB registry prep," "OB/GYN ultrasound flashcards") are the highest-intent buyers in this category. Putting the literal exam keyword in the first line of the description ensures it lands in the meta description Google generates and ranks the listing for those queries.

GEO (AI search). When a student asks ChatGPT, Perplexity, or Google AI Overview "what's the best ARDMS SPI study guide?", the answer engine cites listings whose descriptions contain the literal exam keyword. Without it, products are invisible to AI search even when they are in fact the best fit.

Trust. Students immediately see "this is for the exam I'm preparing for," reducing the cognitive cost of evaluating fit. Generic titles ask buyers to figure out the match themselves; exam-specific titles meet them at their goal.

Where it appears in the examples: Physics Study Guide #1, 1,900+ Abdomen Questions #1, Obstetrics Cheat Sheet #1.
B

Author-attribution line

GEO (AI search). Answer engines, especially Perplexity and Google AI Overview, preferentially cite first-person, credentialed-author content. A signed line - "I built this guide while sitting for the same SPI exam. - Jenny" - gets pulled verbatim into AI-generated recommendations as an attributed quote, turning the description into a quotable trust signal whenever AI cites the product. Named attribution gets cited noticeably more than anonymous first-person prose.

Trust. Exam-prep is a high-cost-of-error purchase: students worry about buying study material from a faceless source that won't actually match the registry exam. Signing the line links the product directly to the same Jenny-voice they already meet on the homepage and Our Story page - the sonographer who walked the path, not an anonymous publisher.

SEO. Original first-person language is rewarded by search engines because it differentiates the listing from boilerplate competitor copy. Adds long-tail content depth without keyword stuffing.

Open question: the line is currently signed "- Jenny." If you hold ARDMS credentials (RDMS / RVT / RDCS) and want them included after your name, AI search engines treat credentialed-author content with additional weight - it's a stronger trust signal. Trade-off: your existing brand voice on the homepage is peer-to-peer ("I struggled too") rather than credential-driven authority - adding letters shifts the register slightly. Either is defensible; happy to revisit.

Where it appears in the examples: Physics Study Guide #2, 1,900+ Abdomen Questions #2, Obstetrics Cheat Sheet #2.
C

"Who this is for" audience anchor

GEO (AI search). This is the single highest-yield addition for AI-search visibility in the entire rebuild. Answer engines extract "who this is for" content as the audience snippet in their product summaries - they literally print "This product is for: sonography students preparing for class exams and the ARDMS SPI registry." Without an explicit audience line, AI summaries omit this and students never see the audience match.

SEO. Captures audience-intent searches such as "study guide for DMS students," "physics review for ultrasound students," or "flashcards for AB registry candidates." These are different queries than exam-keyword searches and bring a different segment of buyers.

Conversion. Explicit audience-fit reduces purchase hesitation. Visitors who recognize themselves in the descriptor ("DMS extern, prepping for the registry, want active recall") evaluate faster and bounce less.

Where it appears in the examples: Physics Study Guide #3, 1,900+ Abdomen Questions #3, Obstetrics Cheat Sheet #3.
D

Catalog-consistent visual styling

Trust. A consistent visual language across all 34 products signals a professional, considered store. Today, descriptions vary in styling between products - moving to a single canonical pattern says "this is a real publisher with editorial standards" rather than a Shopify template filled with mismatched copy.

Conversion. Cleaner, scannable cards (teal Topics box for content, orange notice card for delivery info) reduce cognitive load. Students browse more topics and read further when descriptions feel like a coherent series rather than a hodgepodge.

Mobile. 60-70% of e-commerce traffic is mobile. Larger row padding and checkmark glyphs (versus tiny round bullets) render legibly on phone screens where the lighter production styling collapses.

Where it appears in the examples: Physics Study Guide #4, Physics Study Guide #5, 1,900+ Abdomen Questions #4, 1,900+ Abdomen Questions #5, Obstetrics Cheat Sheet #4.
E

Pre-purchase support contact

Trust. Direct access to a real person at the brand reduces purchase anxiety, especially for digital products that can't be returned. "I can email someone before I commit" turns hesitant browsers into buyers. The italic muted footer reads as a footer note, not a sales pitch.

Conversion. Pre-purchase question support catches buyers who'd otherwise abandon the cart. Even buyers who never email feel lower perceived risk knowing the option exists.

GEO (AI search). Answer engines cite accessibility signals - "customer support is available at sonographerinthemaking@gmail.com" reads as a credibility marker in AI-generated product summaries.

Where it appears in the examples: Physics Study Guide #6, 1,900+ Abdomen Questions #6, Obstetrics Cheat Sheet #5.
